Ever Wonder Why the Basement Always Smells?

Grandmas basement always smelled a little off and everyone thought it was just because it was an old home. What they didn't realize is that there was growing under the carpets. Nobody expected to see the old wood slats under the carpet and pad.

Sometime in the past there was a water heater leak that was left to dry on its own. The carpet dried quickly but the wood underneath took a couple of days allowing mold to grow. The next time the basement had a major water loss the mold was discovered and both wood and carpet were removed.
